SHAFAQNA Türkiye – Claiming that allergies are a common problem in childhood, Dr. Dr. Hale Molla Kafi stated that families experienced great panic when faced with this problem. Dr. Kafi listed the most common allergy symptoms, which can manifest themselves in different ways:
“Mucoid, bloody stools, problems with weight gain, dermatitis and eczema, constipation or diarrhea, itchy or stuffy nose, and asthma are definitely seen with allergies.”

Stating that pediatricians always do blood tests on children who are suspected of having an allergy. Kafi said: “Values such as Ige and Eosinophil need to be checked in a patient’s blood test. Specific analysis of Ige for allergens can be performed in the blood, especially in small children. A skin allergy test, which can be done at any age but is more practical for slightly older children, should be done on the forearm or back. In these tests, it is checked whether the patient has an allergic organ and what he is allergic to. While it is not necessary to stop any fasting or medication before a blood test, antihistamine-containing drugs (antiallergic drugs, cold medicines) used before an allergy skin test should be stopped at least 5 days before. In particular, most children with asthma also have allergies. Most of them may be allergic to house dust, dust mites, mold, pollen, animal and plant dander.
“NASE SPRAY DOES NOT AFFECT GROWTH”

Claiming that allergy treatment is organized according to the patient’s symptoms, Dr. Kafi said: “And it is applied according to certain steps. If the patient knows the factors of skin rash (urticaria, urticaria), then in addition to the diet and precautions, antiallergic drugs are prescribed, patients with eczema (atopic dermatitis) are mainly recommended topical creams and lotions. Allergy symptoms in some patients manifest as an illness called hay fever. This can be in the form of itchy nose, nasal congestion, watery eyes and itching. These patients are prescribed eye drops and nasal sprays, as well as oral antiallergic drugs. It is widely believed among the population that nasal sprays affect growth, and since the amount of cortisol contained in these preparations is very small and their absorption from the nasal mucosa is negligible, scientific studies have shown that they do not have a general (systemic) effect on the body. If the patient does not respond to drug treatment, allergy precautions should be reviewed and, if necessary, allergy testing should be retested. Typically, such patients are upgraded to a higher level treatment that is taken as a powder or chewable tablet and is usually used regularly during the risky months. Vaccine treatment may be given to patients who are severe and do not respond to medical treatment when deemed appropriate by the pediatric allergist. If the patient has asthma symptoms, drugs taken from the respiratory tract are added in addition to the treatments mentioned above. These drugs are not addictive, are not believed to affect growth, do not cause early puberty, it is very important to use the treatment as recommended by the doctor and often. Dr. Kafi asked the families to pay attention to the following:

“one. Never give foods your child is sensitive to, try not to keep them at home.
2. If your child is allergic to house dust and mites, especially when removing fabrics and carpets from the bedroom: mites live in all kinds of fabrics, whether they are woolen or not.
3. Bed blankets and pillows should be covered with special covers that are impervious to ticks.
4. Bed linen must be washed at least once every 15 days at a temperature above 60C.
5. It is necessary to completely remove plush toys from the bedroom and house.
6. Never allow smoking in or near your home.
7. Do not expose your child to strong odors and aerosols such as perfume, talcum powder, hairspray and paint.
8. Use vacuum cleaners with HEPA filters. If resources do not allow these brooms to be purchased, a person with a tick allergy should not be present during sweeping.

9. Causes the death of ticks; The effectiveness of chemicals, which are sometimes recommended to be added to washed laundry, and sometimes used for environmental cleaning, has not been proven. Therefore, their use is not recommended.
10. A child allergic to house dust mites is advised to stay in a well-ventilated room in the open sun. It makes no sense to put air filters in the rooms. Since mites and their allergen-causing parts are heavier than air, they do not float in the air and fall to the ground. Therefore air filters are useless.
11. A frequently recommended practice in our country is a steam room in children’s rooms. Steam is inconvenient for children allergic to mites, but it is recommended for use in rooms with very low humidity.
12. If you are allergic to animals and cannot prevent the presence of animals in your home, at least keep them out of your bedroom and keep your bedroom door closed at all times.
13. Those who are allergic to mold; Wipe moldy surfaces with a cleaner containing bleach.
14. Those who are allergic to pollen; During the pollen season, aeration can be done very early in the morning or in the evening. Ask your doctor if any adjustments to your allergy and asthma treatment are needed before allergy season starts.”
