SHAFAKNA TURKEY. After the earthquake in Kahramanmaras, the texture of the wreckage of buildings was curious. Sector representatives reported on the methods and figures to be followed in this regard. The cost of garbage collection for each building is calculated as 250 thousand Turkish liras.
Two devastating earthquakes of magnitude 7.7 and 7.6, with epicenters located in two districts of Kahramanmarash, occurred in 11 provinces.
On the morning of February 6, when the first earthquake occurred, and 9 hours later, the earthquakes that followed it did not survive. Over 50,000 buildings were destroyed. In addition to those that have been demolished, there are buildings that have not been demolished but are too damaged to enter.
WRACHES STARTED REMOVING
Today is the 11th day of the earthquake. In addition to search and rescue, silent and lifeless debris is collected by core sampling.
387,410 BUILDINGS HAVE BEEN ASSESSED IN 11 PROVINCES
According to the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, damage assessment studies were carried out in 387,410 buildings in 11 provinces affected by the earthquake. While the number of buildings with medium damage was determined to be 11,114, it was found that 99,300 buildings had light damage and 180,355 buildings were not damaged. It was found that 50,576 surveyed buildings were badly damaged or destroyed, and the damaged ones needed urgent demolition.
Leyla Ilkhan from the newspaper Ekonomika tried to find answers to questions about how much the demolition and garbage disposal bill for the earthquake will cost.
EARTHQUAKE DAMAGE AND A LAUNDRY BILL OF AT LEAST 12 BILLION LIR
Demolition contractors say the bill will exceed 12 billion lire. Contractors also emphasize that the state must be involved.
FOR EACH BUILDING, THE COST OF DESTRUCTION REMOVAL IS $250,000. TL
Industry experts have calculated the cost of garbage disposal for each building at 250,000 Turkish Liras. With 50,576 buildings, the bill for demolition and waste removal in the first place is 12.6 billion Turkish liras.
5 BILLION TL WITH LAUNDRY RECYCLING
Another problem pointed out by sector representatives who said that the value of 5 billion Turkish liras could be obtained from the processing of the debris is that it should be processed under public control.
ALL DESTRUCTION COMPANIES MUST BE APPOINTED
Former Demolition Contractors Association President and Demolition Specialist Mehmet Ali Bulut gave the following information on the subject:
First of all, the areas will be cleared as a result of sorting and transfer of the demolished buildings. Then the demolition of heavily damaged buildings and the removal of their debris will be ensured. All demolition companies in Turkey must be appointed to demolish these buildings and transport the debris.
2,000 COMPANIES OPERATING IN THE INDUSTRY
Stating that there are about 2,000 companies in the sector with or without demolition contract certificates, Bulut said that if all companies are nominated, each company can take on the task of demolishing and removing debris from 25 buildings.
“DESTRUCTION AND CLEANING OF THE BUILDING FOR APPROXIMATELY 1 MONTH”
Bulut also said that the period of demolition and garbage collection of the building can take approximately 1 month, and all garbage can be cleaned and disposed of in a total of about a year.
2 CARS ENOUGH FOR EACH BUILDING
Emphasizing that demolition companies in Turkey have the ability to remove this debris, Bulut said that if 2 vehicles were assigned to each building in seismic areas and the demolition was carried out in sequence, 4,000 construction vehicles would be needed:
In our country, there are construction machines that can match this number. For each building, 8 people will be enough as a manager, operator and demolition worker. In total, 16 thousand personnel will have to be allocated for simultaneous demolitions.
OBJECT MUST BE SET FOR RULES
President of the Association for the Enhancement of Seismic Activity (DEGUDER) Sinan Türkkan stressed that it is impossible to quickly remove these debris because of the possibility of finding lifeless bodies under them.
Ahmet Sert, vice president of the Association of Collective Construction Machinery Operators (TIMODER), which also did demolition work for a while, said there was a need to be more careful about the possibility that people might have valuables as well as living quarters in debris.
Sert said that this situation will speed up the process of garbage removal, given the large size of the region, the winter season and the crowd going to help their relatives. Serth continued:
Here, owners of construction equipment will be able to pay for themselves with the material that will be removed from the rubble. Especially in newly built buildings, the iron content ratio is higher than in older ones. Thanks to materials such as doors, windows, fire escapes, these structures can cover both the removal of debris and the cost of opening the foundation.
Cert added that the materials must first be stored in a suitable location and then separated under public control.
ASBESTOS SPECIALISTS SHOULD BE APPOINTED
Mehmet Ali Bulut stated that garbage collection and demolition issues need to be taken into account in such regions and said:
Separate the rescue items of our people affected by the earthquake and hand them over to their true owners, and take measures to reduce the spread of carcinogenic materials, if any. Because asbestos was used in some materials in old buildings. It would be useful to appoint asbestos experts in the region.
