SAFAKNA TURKEY-After the Kahramanmaras earthquake, 10 cities were hit hard in many ways. While debris posed a high risk among these damages, problems such as the buildup of earthquake relief in the environment, dust clouds, and leftover food began to pose a risk of epidemics. Experts shared what needs to be done to protect yourself from epidemics in the earthquake zone.
Problems that have arisen in earthquake zones can affect both health and psychology. The fact that food leftovers delivered to the earthquake area are not collected causes a serious hygiene problem. At the end of last week, it was announced that dust clouds and food debris accumulating in earthquake areas pose a danger of epidemic disease. In an interview with Haber Global, prof. Dr. Oguz Ozyaral shared precautionary measures that can be taken in this regard, warning those living in the earthquake area from the risk of epidemics.
BREAKING ANY CHAIN IS A HUGE RISK
prof. Dr. Oguz Ozyaral, speaking about the lack of hygiene in the area of the earthquake, said: “If we hypothetically put on the table that environmental health, personal hygiene and social hygiene are interconnected, breaking any of the chains means spreading the infection to society. .”
IMPORTANT TO WEAR WITH A MASK
prof. Dr. Oguz Özyaral explained that the most important measure that one can personally take to protect against epidemics in the region is the mask: “We recommend that everyone in this region wear a mask. This is the main source of preventing microbial particles and dust particles suspended in the environment from entering the lungs.” said.
REMAINING FOOD MUST BE AWAY FROM THE CITY CENTER
Emphasizing the importance of paying attention to the hygiene of garbage that accumulates in the environment, prof. Dr. Oguz Ozyaral, “Viral hepatitis can be transmitted through food and water. So the list is huge. E. coli infections, which can cause intestinal infections, can be transmitted.” To protect the health of the population, environmental hygiene is of great importance. “But most importantly, we need to send disinfectants. The wreckage, along with the surrounding debris, must be taken out of the city and buried immediately. This is our first need, it is important to prevent any source of infection that may arise there and not get infected from any animal, insect, rodent and not pass it on to other people and animals,” he said and shared the measures to be taken against lack of hygiene.
