SAFAKNA TURKEY- BIM Executive Board member Galip Haykach has announced his resignation as President of the Association of Food Retailers (GPD).
Saying, “I would like to state that I have decided to step down from the Board of Directors and membership on the Board of the Food Retailers Association as a result of allegations and criticism that have been brought to the agenda by the press and social media in recent years.” Aykach said: “With my 49 years of professional experience, this has been a difficult situation for both our consumers and our industry. I have always tried to do my best during the inflation process. November 2022 and earlier, some deliberate attempts to damage the reputation in the media and social networks are doing great harm to me, and the industry, and the country’s economy.I would like it to be known that the Food Retailers Association has never been associated with any -any political entity, and none of the statements I made were addressed to members of the media and the press, who are doing their job properly.I watched with regret as Mr. Devlet Bahceli showed delicacy after the speculations placed on the agenda.I have it was never intended to offend him. Please don’t be offended,” he said.
“I WANT TO SPECIFICALLY POINT THAT MY DECISION IS NOT RELATED TO THE REQUEST AND THE CONTENT OF THE PETITION OF ŞOK MAKETLER TİCARET A.Ş.”
Haykach said: “At the next General Assembly, which will be held in about a month (January 2023), my term of office will expire in accordance with the two-term rule in our charter. I would like to share with you that I decided to step down from my current duties a month ago, with your permission, in order to avoid any harm to the members of our association, taking into account these latest developments in this process. I would like to point out that this decision has nothing to do with the content and request of the ŞOK Marketler Ticaret A.Ş. petition, which, unfortunately, was released to the press. I wish success to our friend, who will take over as president after me, and declare that I will continue to work hard to offer our consumers products at a reasonable price and good quality in a highly competitive environment.”
