Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte announced the resignation of the four-party coalition government.
The asylum plan, which provided for the return of immigrants to their countries after the end of the war, caused a crisis in the government of the Netherlands.
The government fell when the political parties that made up the governing coalition failed to overcome the ongoing dispute over immigration.
Tim Kuisten, spokesman for the Party for Freedom and Democracy (VVD), approved the resignation and said: “4 parties have decided that they cannot agree on immigration. That is why they decided to put an end to this government,” he said.
Rutte has sought support from her party for a proposal to limit the entry of refugee children into the Netherlands and allow families to wait at least two years before they can be reunited.
