By decision of the government, the ban on wheat exports was lifted ahead of schedule. This information was confirmed by the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture to the First Channel of Georgia.
Recall, according to the decision of the Government of Georgia, adopted last year, the export of wheat and barley from Georgia was prohibited from July 4, 2022 to July 4, 2023. Although the ban on barley was lifted shortly thereafter, the ban on wheat remains in place to this day.
A few days ago, the Minister of Environment and Agriculture, Otar Shamugia, said that there was no longer a risk in terms of food security in the country, so the ban in question was not necessary.
