Home sales in Turkey fell by 25 percent

SHAFAQNA TURKEY – Sales of houses in Turkey in October decreased by 25.3 percent compared to the same month of the previous year and amounted to 102,660.

According to TUIK data, Istanbul had the highest proportion of home sales with 16,987 home sales or 16.5 percent. In terms of sales, Istanbul is followed by Ankara with 8,146 house sales and a 7.9 percent share and Antalya with 6,323 house sales and a 6.2 percent share.

The provinces with the fewest houses sold were Hakkari with 30 houses, Ardahan with 42 houses and Bayburt with 69 houses respectively.

Sales up 6.7% in 10 months

Housing sales in January-October increased by 6.7% compared to the same period last year and amounted to 1 million 159 thousand 853.

Mortgage housing sales in October decreased by 52.7% compared to the same month last year and amounted to 13,268 units. The share of mortgage sales in total housing sales amounted to 12.9%. Sales of mortgage housing in January-October, on the contrary, increased by 15.2% compared to the same period last year and amounted to 241,869 units.

Sales of other houses in October decreased by 18.3% compared to the same month last year and amounted to 89 thousand 392. The share of other sales in total housing sales was 87.1%. On the other hand, other home sales realized between January and October increased by 4.7% year-on-year to 917,984.

The number of first-hand home sales in Turkey in October decreased by 22.0% compared to the same month last year and amounted to 32,692. The share of first-hand home sales in total home sales was 31.8%. In January-October, first-hand home sales increased by 4.8% compared to the same period of the previous year and amounted to 344,810.

Sales of existing homes in Turkey in October decreased by 26.7% compared to the same month last year and amounted to 69,968 units. The share of secondary housing sales in total housing sales was 68.2%. Sales of secondary housing in January-October increased by 7.6% compared to the same period of the previous year and amounted to 815 thousand 43.

5 thousand 377 houses sold to foreigners

Sales of housing to foreigners in October decreased by 8.8 percent compared to the same month last year and amounted to 5,377 units. In October, the share of housing sales to foreigners in total housing sales was 5.2 percent. Antalya ranked first in house sales to foreigners with 2,123 houses sold. Antalya is followed by Istanbul with 1658 sales and Mersin with 490 sales respectively.

In January-October, housing sales to foreigners increased by 26.9% compared to the same period last year and amounted to 55 thousand 21.

Depending on the nationality of the country, most housing sales were made to citizens of the Russian Federation.

In October, citizens of the Russian Federation bought 2,023 houses in Turkey. Citizens of the Russian Federation are followed by Iran with 498 places of residence, Iraq with 310 places of residence and Ukraine with 216 places of residence.
