ANKARA (IGFA) – Russia has announced its withdrawal from the Grain Corridor Agreement, which was signed last year with the mediation of Turkey and the United Nations (UN), which ensures the transportation of millions of tons of grain stuck in Ukrainian ports to the world.
“As of today, the agreement no longer exists,” the Kremlin said in a statement.
According to a BBC News report, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said they had terminated their participation in the agreement on the current terms and would return to the agreement if the necessary conditions were met. Russia also communicated its decision to Turkey, Ukraine and the UN.
Recall that the last vessel under the Grain Corridor Agreement left the Ukrainian port of Odessa on Sunday.
It has been alleged that Russia cited failure to keep promises to import its own grain and fertilizer as the reason for its decision.
