Security Service of Ukraine conducted a search in the monastery

This morning, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) conducted a search in the historic Orthodox monastery of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra. The SBU said that the raid was carried out “against the subversive activities of the Russian special services.”

In a statement, the SBU stated that the raid was carried out to prevent the historic monastery from becoming “the center of the Russian world” and that some research and investigation was being carried out at the monastery. The SBU stressed that the raid was carried out as part of systematic work against the subversive activities of Russian special services in Ukraine. While stating that the monastery buildings had been searched for the presence of “illicit substances,” the SBU also stated that “monitoring was carried out on the illegal activities of persons on the territory of the Lavra, damaging the state sovereignty of Ukraine.”
