SAFAKNA TURKEY – Those who fast during Ramadan spend about 16 hours of fasting between suhoor and iftar. An expert nutritionist said that this period actually triggers an event called autophagy, which is a kind of body repair process.
Nutritionist Shilan Alyamach said that genes called sirtuins are activated during fasting and provide rejuvenation and slowing down aging, and said that thanks to this gene, 1.4-1.6 rejuvenation and longevity are achieved.

Alyamach said: “The phenomenon of youth preservation, the ability to live longer and the maintenance of biological life has been tested in monkeys and mice in accordance with studies carried out with the sirtuin gene. It has happened and proven,” he said.

Noting that the sirtuin gene is released while a person is hungry, Alyamach noted that they live longer. It has been proven that hungry experimental animals have a longer life expectancy and are healthy.
