Vital organs may be damaged if this treatment is delayed.

SHAFAQNA Türkiye – Emsi Hospital Gastroenterologist Specialist Ultrasound Dr. Tyulin Kendir Kochak explained the symptoms of intestinal obstruction as follows:

“Manifested by severe abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, bloating, constipation and gas. These symptoms seriously affect the patient’s quality of life and can lead to damage to vital organs and complications in case of delayed treatment.

THERE ARE MANY CAUSES OF EMPTY OBSTRUCTION

Claiming that intestinal obstruction can have many causes, D. Dr. Kochak said: “The most common causes are intestinal adhesions, hernias, intussusception (intestinal nodes), intestinal tumors, colonic dilatation, Hirschsprung disease, narrow passages of the colon, prolonged constipation and pregnancy. In addition, inflammatory bowel disease, infections, or diverticulitis can also cause bowel obstruction.

IN WHAT SITUATIONS SURGICAL INTERVENTION IS NECESSARY?

Stating that laparotomy or laparoscopic surgery is usually reserved for cases of intestinal obstruction requiring surgery, Kochak said, “A laparotomy is a procedure performed by opening a large incision in the abdomen. Laparoscopic surgery, on the other hand, is a minimal surgical procedure performed using small incisions and a special device called a laparoscope. Laparoscopic surgery has advantages such as faster recovery time, less pain and less scarring,” he said, explaining in which cases surgery is used.

Kochak said: “If there is a complete bowel obstruction, if the bowel obstruction is at an advanced stage and medical treatment is not enough, surgery is required. In addition, if there are complications such as intestinal damage, infection or necrosis, that is, tissue death due to intestinal obstruction, in this case, emergency surgery is vital.
