The sense of taste changes

Oral candidiasis, commonly known as thrush, is commonly seen in infants but can also occur in the mouth and throat in adults. This disease, which is common in pregnancy and diabetes, can occur despite good oral hygiene when a person becomes susceptible to infections for one reason or another. Dr. Instructor Member Hasan Degirmenci said: “Thrush, which appears as a white coating on the mucous membrane of the mouth and throat, is a typical example of a fungal infection of the oral cavity. After these white layers are peeled off with a spatula, red and inflamed areas remain under them, which usually bleed easily. There is constant hair growth in these areas. At the same time, a person’s sense of taste changes. Sometimes there is also pain or burning on the tongue. These symptoms also interfere with eating and drinking,” he said.

Dentures increase susceptibility to thrush

Claiming that one of the most important factors predisposing a patient to thrush is dentures in the mouth, Dr. V. Instructor Prof. Degirmenci said: “Prostheses reduce the ability of saliva to clean the epithelium and mechanically wash. As a result, inflammations and inflammations occur in the layer covering the inner surface of the mouth. At the same time, there may be an increase in yeast and bacteria due to excessive sugar intake, diabetes, and food restriction. In order to prevent thrush in the mouth, it is absolutely necessary to pay attention to oral hygiene. Teeth should be brushed and flossed regularly. Frequent use of rinses to maintain healthy gums also disrupts the normal microflora in the mouth, so care should be taken when using rinses.

Claiming that foods containing sugar or yeast can trigger thrush. Trainer Member Degirmenci stressed that when treating thrush, follow the treatment recommendations given by the doctor and that probiotic sources such as yogurt can be added to the diet and help restore the microflora in the mouth.
